Is It Incompetance or Sabotage?

While I'm busy with senior thesis drafts, why not toss up another cartoon?

But there is a serious question behind this. Is this just right wing, malcontent twisting of the facts? Is the President an incompetent state senator who is in way over his head? Or is he a carefully disguised, ACORN related, Jeremiah Wright discipled, liberty hating, Chicago battle-hardened revolutionary who charmed his way into the highest office? Which is the true picture of Barack Obama, or is he somewhere in between?

John Harris at Politico sketches seven pictures of Obama that are unflattering and are leaving an increasingly deep impression in the public mind. Are these caricatures or photo portraits of the President? To me, the list reads like a mid-November 2012 post-election post-mortem for a one term presidency.

1. He thinks he’s playing with Monopoly money

2. Too much Leonard Nimoy

3. That’s the Chicago Way

4. He’s a pushover

5. He sees America as another pleasant country on the U.N. roll call, somewhere between Albania and Zimbabwe

6. President Pelosi

7. He’s in love with the man in the mirror

Read all about it in "7 Stories Barack Obama Doesn't Want Told."

This is another example of this blogger acting in a very unchristian manner. The ironic thing is the quote that lies just beside this blog on this site:

Remind them to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men." (Titus 3:1-2)

This blogger continuously speaks evil of the President of the United States, which is his right of course, but to do so in the name of Christ or of Christianity is so misleading as to the nature of Jesus as to be evil in itself.

If you want to keep piling up lies about our President, that is your right. But do it on a political/secular site. Leave the Name of our Lord out of this insipient trash.

Tim, when I read your comment (they come to me in email form), I thought, "Oh,no! Did I go too far? Did unguarded words make their way into public? Does he have a point?" I was happy to find, upon re-reading my little post, that all is fine.

I lay out, very briefly, two alternative explanations that account for the President's behavior and policies since January. Of course, the explanations are premised on the view that he is destroying the country domestically and castrating the country internationally (that's an agricultural image, not unchristian vulgarity). I end by asking which one is closer to the truth, and I suggest that the truth might even be somewhere in between. Or not.

I believe in honoring those to whom honor is due--kings, presidents etc. I don't call him Bambi, or anything like that. I refer to "President Obama."

The article comes from Politico, which is a left leaning outfit. The author is warning the President against allowing certain "narratives" from taking hold in the public mind. The cartoon speaks for itself, but it does not demean him, as many political cartoon do their office holding subjects.

In a free republic, a faithful citizen, a citizen who is faithful to the laws and to his fellow citizens, will be respectfully critical of his government. Given that it is ultimately the Constitution that governs the country, that is, I think, Christian submission in its truest form.

We are all free as citizens to think and say whatever we feel. My issue is, and has been, that this site claims to be presenting a "Christian" point of view. There is nothing "Christian" about the comments you are posting. Having a politcal point of view is fine. The religious right has fooled many people into believing that its views are reflective of Jesus's views. They are not! In fact, they are often in direct opposition to the teachings of Jesus.
Pleae stop soiling the name of Jesus with your politics.

This is my main point and the only reason I take any time responding to this blog.

From a more secular point of view, however, if you are truly interested in understanding the President's behavior and policies you may first want to examine what he has said his reasons are for those behaviors and policies. You could then dispute each point with some facts rather than fantasizing about his psychology or personality.

You print a cartoon that starts with an assumption that the Obama administration "crashed the financial system." The most fundamental examination of recent history will reveal to you that the financial system began "crashing" before Obama took office. Have you been following the market lately? It has been recovering nicely since shortly after the stimulus package was signed. Monthly job losses have been declining. The unemployment rate (a lagging indicator) is still quite a problem but it is as safe to say that it would be worse without the stimulus package as it would be to say that the stimulus package had no impact on it. Bailouts were initiated in the previous administration and, as unpopular as the stimulus package may be, most credible econimists were in agreement that a stimulus package was necessary to help prevent a depression. Do any of you remember that just a few short months ago there was a very real fear that we were on the verge of another Great Depression. We are not out of the woods yet, but things are looking a lot better than many feared they would at this point. While one may still have very good reasons for believing it may do more long-term harm than good, I do not see how one can honestly assign nefarious motives to Obama or anyone else for passing/signing it.

Tim, if you are still following the comments on this blog, please enlighten us. What are the teachings of Jesus you refer to that are so misrepresented by the "religious right"? I am genuinely curious what teachings you are referring to. If you can quote chapter and verse, that would be helpful, or at least quote as close to what you remember he said so I can search for the verse myself.
